Quartz glass can be machined using standard equipment originally designed to machine metal, with some minor modifications. Diamond impregnated cutting tools are used instead of carbide or other metals, and a water-based coolant is applied liberally to the working area to lubricate and control heat.
At Wacom Quartz we have a combination of hand operated, semi-automatic and fully computer controlled machines including vertical mills, surface grinders, CNC machining centers, and a purpose built CNC slotting machine.
